Day 541: 286 lbs

How can I overcome the impulses from deep inside the ancient part of my brain which want me to eat even when I'm not hungry?

* Self control. Train myself to say No. When this works, it usually only works for a while (a few months to a couple years), until I get complacent and backslide. It takes enormous diligence to fight your impulses for life.

* Meditation. Some mediative techniques are supposed to help with the self control. But where do I go to learn mediation (and with three kids and work, where do I find the time)?

* Medication. There's a new drug which is supposed to block certain neurotransmitters involved in addictive eating behavior. It sounds promising for me, but weight loss drugs have a very poor track record of side effects If the underlying problem is impulsivity related to adult ADHD, then an ADHD medication might work, but those can also have side effects.
